So why did I start this blog?

Because I missed being creative. Because I want to share my stories, even if it’s just as memories for myself. I wanted to start a travel blog for years, but never did it.

I always loved to write, ever since I was young. I used to write long pages in my diaries, I wrote letters to my friend who moved to Thailand when she was 8, wrote lots of letters, travel journals, long e-mails and postcards from far away places. I used to write all the time. But then I stopped. I stopped using my creativity without really realising it and for a while I felt really uninspired.

At first I didn’t understand where this feeling came from. I mean I have a good life. I travel as much as I can, live in the center of Amsterdam, I have a job in the travel industry, a great family and amazing friends who are spread across the world… But why did I feel like this? I guess it had more to do with the fact that I stopped myself from doing the things I really wanted to do, because I thought I couldn’t do them.

I booked a flight to Bali, to get away from home. Because it’s usually when I travel that I see things much more clear. Routine life really kills my sparkle and my wonder for the world, it makes me feel stuck. That’s probably why I feel the urge to leave my country every few years. Off to new adventures. New places to discover. New people to meet. To get inspired. To live in different places and make new memories.

It’s during my trip in Bali when my friends finally opened my eyes and told me to stop talking and start doing. Because dreams don’t work unless you do. I discovered the only one who was standing in my way, was really just myself. I started to work less in my job to make time for the things I want to do and that are important to me: making use of my creativity and write more (and other things too, but more about that later).

I am still figuring out this whole blog thing. I’m no SEO expert, I don’t write like Shakespeare, I kind of suck at planning, my mind is like a thunderstorm and I have difficulties to write consistent. But I love to share my adventures and write about the things that move me. For myself, for you, for anyone who would like to read it. Hopefully my stories will inspire you to travel more to places you’ve never been, put a smile on your face and encourage you to chase your own dreams.
Because it’s never too late to start.

  1. Definitely great reasons to start a blog! It’s so important to have a creative outlet. I also started my blog for a similar reason – I wanted to record and make sense of my travel memories (for myself and others too). However, even though I love writing, I have always struggled with it. Starting my blog was a way to challenge myself.

    1. Yeah I agree it’s so important to have a creative outlet and such a fun way of documenting your trips :). Awesome that you’re challenging yourself with writing through your blog! Thanks for your comment 🙂

  2. Hi there!
It is always interesting to hear why people started out their blogs – what motivates each of us 😉

I think my reasons are very similar to yours. As a child, I was always very creative; painting, drawing, sewing… everything. Then I started doing voluntary work in different organizations, and it sort of stopped for many, many years. Now with the blog, I’m realizing that “hey!” all those creative stuff of pictures, layout and (partly) writing is actually pretty fun 😀

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hey Rebecca! Yeah I agree, it’s a shame we let go of our creativity when we get older as if it’s not important anymore when it really is! And it makes life just more fun :). Just has a look at your blog, wow girl you’ve lived in some asweome places! Thanks for your lovely comment!
